Body Shaming Fashion “Advice” in O Magazine Sparks Empowering Movement on Social Media

An “advice” column in O Magazine sparked major media controversy with their recent issue.
One reader asked, “Can I wear a crop top?” The magazine’s advice: “If, (and only if!) you have a flat stomach, feel free to try one.”

Tamar Anitai posted the photo of the page to her Instagram on Tuesday, writing in the caption, “Surprised to see this level of #bodyshaming in [O, The Oprah Magazine]. The feature is about women feeling healthy. Part of health is self-esteem and that’s intrinsically connected to body image. Stop telling women what they CAN’T wear.”

Since Tamar’s posting, the image has been shared by many and women of all sizes took to social media to fight back.

It sparked a pretty badass movement and we couldn’t be more inspired by the ladies who have taken their selfies to the next level with their #RockTheCrop hashtag. If any good has come from this, it’s the powerful photos of women of all sizes proudly wearing their crop tops to prove they can wear whatever they want.
