4 Ways to Boost Your Energy in the Morning

Let’s get right to it. The morning struggle can be real. Most mornings I want to hit the snooze button a time or four squeezing in every second of sleep before starting my day. These are usually the days I have a rushed mentality, a less than positive attitude and way less energy. I love the extra few minutes of sleep, but hate those days.

Set your alarm 30 minutes earlier and start your day with these 4 things for an energy-fueled day.

1. Warm lemon water: If you haven’t heard already, warm lemon water is having its moment right now. Sorry kale, your time is up. There are so many benefits to drinking this first thing in the morning. Water should be the first thing you drink every day. If you are going to have 12oz of coffee with breakfast then start with 12oz of warm lemon water when you first wake up. This will cleanse your body flushing out the toxins you may have consumed the night before, gives your immune system a boost, helps fight hunger cravings throughout the day and keeps your skin blemish free. Just to name a few. As someone who has drank this for a couple years, I can affirm to all of the benefits that they do in fact work.

2. Moment of Gratitude: While sipping on your warm lemon water, be thankful for another day. Appreciate the quiet morning in a time of prayer or thanksgiving. It’s a new day, a chance to start fresh and be the best version of you. Go ahead and start that daily devotional you’ve been putting off.

3. Sweat: A quick morning workout, even just 20 minutes, will give you energy you need throughout the entire day. Get up and get in a quick jog, a short yoga session or even just some stretching. Anything!!! Just get up and get your blood pumping! This will kick start your metabolism for the rest of the day and you will feel great about yourself.

4. Breakfast: It is so crazy to me that so many of my friends and family skip breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day! You need a healthy breakfast to fuel your body for the day ahead. Skipping breakfast doesn’t make you lose weight. It just makes you hungry and probably a little moody. Breakfast sets the tone for the way you will eat the rest of the day. If you fill your body with healthy nourishment, you are likely to eat well the rest of the day. Do yourself a favor and STOP skipping breakfast.

Simple, right? Including these 4 things into your daily morning routine will give you the energy you need to face the day, a better attitude and you’ll feel good about yourself. Some of you already wake up way too early to get ready for work, or are up at all hours in the night with a baby. I have been there waking up early for work and I have a toddler myself, yet still made a huge effort to add these 4 things to my morning. I had more energy once this became part of my everyday than the extra few minutes of sleep gave me, even on the hardest of days to get out of bed. Set your alarm just 30 minutes earlier and make it a priority to take care of yourself before the day gets busy. Give a shot for one week. 7 days. Everyday. You may be a little tired at first adjusting, but once this is in your routine I promise you’ll feel great!
